MCM Presents International Collegiate Design Award in Chicago

Daniel Shirk, senior designer of MCM Group, presented the collegiate design award winners with the 2012 MCM Group Mock Firms International Skyscraper Award.

A NewSchool of Architecture and Design (NSAD) team won the highest honors as First Place Mock Firm in the international 2012 Mock Firms Competition collegiate division held in Chicago May 3-4. Ando, the student firm from Sevellie, Spain was barely edged out and took second.

The winning team, which named their mock firm Capsule Architecture Lab, were all undergraduate students in the NSAD Bachelor of Architecture program: Monika Banakaite, Wilfred Briones, Brandon Nash, Lam Thanh Nguyen and Carlos Sandoval. As the overall winner of the competition, the student team received the MCM Group Prize including a cash award and school trophy. The team’s selected Beijing to design their winning sustainable skyscraper.

This year represents the fourth year that Chicago Architecture Today has held the international competition. Darrell Jones, President of Chicago Architect Today stated, “a special acknowledgement to Daniel Shirk and the MCM Group for sponsoring this year’s collegiate award.” MCM looks forward to the MCM Collegiate Award becoming a permanent international honor to recognize aspiring sustainable design professionals from around the world.
